Unearthing
Discovery can be dangerous...
Unearthing is a tricky thing;
discovery’s untamed:
you never know just what you’ll find;
the mysteries unclaimed.
Yet, archaeologist I am
and in these depths I drill,
excavating for a clue
to secrets buried still.
But I admit, my latest find
does shake me to my core:
shocking truths it does reveal:
both past and what’s in store.
A city so advanced there was;
The markings make it clear.
We transcribed it carefully,
and we quake in fear.
Their star charts, far beyond our means,
revealed a pattern plain;
despite their genius beyond ours
they could not break the chain.
A comet would be passing by,
leaving earth to boil.
They set their findings into stone
Then flew to seek new soil.
The horror from which they escaped
in six months’ time returns.
And with no spaceships, we are doomed:
When all the planet burns.
Unearthing is a tricky thing;
history can bite.
So I shall live my best today
and hold my children tight.
The above story was created for Day 19 of Bradley Ramsey’s The Halls of Pandemonium event.

ooo nice use of rhyme scheme here.
