The Little Things
They matter more than you know.
Yes, I promise to get back to fictional tales to make you laugh, shiver or cry. But, as the year comes to a close, I find myself thinking about beginnings and endings…and the spaces in between.
Life, in a way, is the spaces in between.
So, how do you want to fill those spaces?
Certainly, there is only so much over which we have agency: outside forces will forever affect the trajectory of our lives; some in grand, obvious ways; others in more insidious fashion. But for the moments in our lives where we do have the ability to choose what we do next—and we have the opportunity to notice said moments—what do we want to use as our guide to make that next decision, that next action?
May I suggest love.
Or, if that word strikes you as trite, think “kindness”. Or whatever word feels comfortable and inspiring.
The point is, when you have an opportunity to do something from a place of love (or kindness), you will always manifest a positive change. It may be within in you; it may be in the person for whom you perform the act. But a smile, a kind greeting, a helping hand is never truly wasted; it feels good to do good. And you never know how much someone might need that little reminder that goodness exists. It might even be you.
So, sure: keep working on your grand designs; those great acts or opuses that will one day change the world. But, while you’re doing that, don’t forget each day to do something small that will change the present moment for you, a stranger or loved one. After all, life is made up of moments, and we should make the most of them.
With love,
~Gregory

Amen to that! Kindness goes a long way in making a day go better, and there can always be be more of it.
That's the good stuff, right there.
